Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks battle it out for the coffee market, with DD introducing espresso and lattes and Starbucks egding into DD territory – call it blue collar coffee vs. the “yuppie drinks”.

“To some Dunkin’ Donuts regulars, though, the new sophistication is a little too much. Pat Kelly, a 26-year-old Boston police recruit who drinks Dunkin’ Donuts coffee daily, refuses to try the new Dunkin’ products (and never goes to Starbucks). The only guy in his group of police buddies who tried a Dunkin’ latte got a razzing. ‘I’m not really a latte sort of guy,’ he says. ‘Those are yuppie drinks.'” ++++

Hanging from the sky, Will Alsop’s new building for the Ontario College of Art and Design seemingly wobbles upon 9-storey tall angled columns. It’s insane, and I think it rocks. In the most garish way possible (read: a good thing). Check out some construction pics here++++

According to ABC news, ‘In an internal memorandum distributed on Wednesday, the department declared “Courier New 12” – the font and size decreed for US diplomatic documents for years – to be obsolete and unacceptable after February 1. “In response to many requests and with a view to making our written work easier to read, we are moving to a new standard font: ‘Times New Roman 14’,” said the memorandum. ‘ The report goes on to cite a few exceptions to the rule including official telegraphs.”

So the Bush administration prefers Times over Courier? Makes sense… Times has a bigger “See Dick run” feel to it. I am only surprised they didn’t support big business more and make a leap to Arial, Microsoft’s bitch font (a rip off of Helvetica). The jump in font size must be aimed to help members like Mr Cheney who are getting old and feeble… I think the larger size might help Mr Bush mouth the words easier as he reads along.

Silly how the littleist change under the new administration can incite so much anger in me… Just call me a liberal font wonk.

Massachusetts rules in favor of equality for same-sex couples. Still, its going to be more of a challenge to keep it that way – as those against recognizing the rights of gays and lesbians will push for constitutional amendments on a state and federal level now. +++++

Because of my absolute abhorrence of football, I had to miss this special TV moment. Luckily it is frozen in time forever here. According to Salon.com, Bush also missed the event, due to sleeping through it. Says Salon – “the administration was concerned that the display wasn’t family-friendly “. Seemed pretty friendly to me.

Guess I’m a little slow to discover this one, since they were just profiled in Wired mag, but theminibosses perform versions of Nintendo Entertainment System songs/soundtracks (on analog instruments mind you) AND totally rock. Strange you say? Check out their free mp3’s on the site. Yes! now you say. And also, I want that T-shirt. Buy me one.
