Interesting article over at Lockjaw about chemical dependency – the author went off caffeine, then refined sugar (which I have also sworn off for the time being, and might work on the coffee next), then sleep and charted the effects. Sweet little graphics with it too. ++++

A part of Lockjaws recent summer edition – which has lots of goodies in it. Check that out here. ++++

My brother rules. ++++ You can also find some music clips of his band action on that site – as well as photos of him somehow playing two saxomophones at once. Hmm.

My friend Seema Kapur informed me of an event at Crazy Space tonight. Check it out…

Crazy Space, in conjunction with Highways Performance Space and Artist

Network Refuse & Resist, is proud to present:

DOWN TO IT is an exhibition of performance, video,  film and product and part

of WIDE AWAKE, an alternative independence day celebration to take place

throughout July 5, beginning at 3 o’clock.  The reception for DOWN TO IT opens Saturday, July 5, 8:00-10:30PM.

In DOWN TO IT, six young artists react against oppressive governmental and corporate structures that dictate mainstream cultural values. Using video and film, performance and product, the artists invite the viewer to question and elaborate on his or her own position in the current era of dissent. In her video “Sheep” SONI KUM, an artist of North Korean heritage raised in Japan, faces her ineffectuality here in the “home of  the brave.” Intervening in Wal-Mart consumer culture, MATT LUCERO reclaims and reorganizes public space in his treatment of mass marketed graffiti shirts. SEEMA KAPUR’s horrifically blonde film projection shot at 800 fps reminds us of the cruel pressures of being “other.” Her collaborative work with HARUKO TANAKA turns INS marital packets into humorous tools for resistance and survival. EVELYN SERRANO reinvestigates the experience of homelessness under Castro’s Cuba and YANIRA CARTAGENA’s mixed media installation offers both a critique and reexamination of US political narratives that oppose living reality and the experience ofmarginalized  populations.

Doing some research on Motels for an upcoming project, I found this great collection of late-modernist-vegas-googie hotel postcards. Some of them are simply rad, others, super wacko. And lots of great cars. ++++

I really like little online zines in flash click forward format with a tight little dashed line down the middle to represent the page fold, and here is another one: issue 10 of This is a Magazine – Chaos Happens. ++++ Look around, there is some good stuff in there.
