The Central Artery Tunnel in Boston is getting its leaks patched – over 191 defects in the slurry walls – and the contractors will be footing the bill. Only a few of the defects were considered major, but still the total bill will add up to around 6 million dollars.
Attention Rhode Islanders and other New Englanders:
Does anyone out there have photos of the infamous, and now defunct (I think), Skate Hut. I used to jet down there to ride the spine ramp back in high school. They also had a crazy three corner bowl wedged in the space. Pretty sure it was tucked away in an industrial corner of Providence or nearby – and would love to see it again.
Send em our way and we’ll post em.

A UCLA fine art student’s Russian Roulette performance prompts the early retirement of Nancy Rubins and Chris Burden – famous for his performance Shoot where a friend shot him in the arm with a 22 caliber rifle.
“Standing in front of the class, Deutch pulled out a real-looking gun he had carved from wood. To make it seem genuine, Price said, Deutch had bought a .357 Magnum to use as a model — then returned it to the gun dealer. He inserted what appeared to be a bullet, spun the cylinder and put the barrel against his head.
Deutch pulled the trigger, producing a click. Then he dashed into an adjoining hall. His lawyer said that he had pre-positioned “a big firecracker” in a can there and that he set it off, producing a bang. Then Deutch returned to the room, where normally a discussion and critique would have followed. Instead, “it was pandemonium,” Deutch said in a telephone interview. “The idea of a class structure or any critical thinking was blown out of the water.'”
Tim sent me a link to a great blog with photos and blurbs detailing the history of Boston’s shifting urban form.. though it inists on calling the old pattern Medieval, which is far from the right time period. Gets the mood though. This could use an update with recent developments on the big dig. I will search out a good link later.
Skater Danny Way ollied the Great Wall of China last week. Huge! Bizarre!
I have been chatting a bit with this guy Jason on Archinect – he has some nice screenprints up of gig posters he made… check ’em out. Makes me wanna get some ink all over the place here in the studio.
Coming to visit? Well, we are right here. Too bad my car wasn’t parked out front that day.
(you might actually have to pan right a bit to see the concrete building with the blue metal grids over the windows.)
Or, if you happen to be flying over, you can spot us with this. Looks like there was a movie crew in the empty lot next door that day. Oh, and the long long building is Sci-Arc. For now at least.

Wanted to post it before I lost the link – more about it later perhaps.
