You got that?
I have been looking around half-assedly for a new car these days, as mine at 16 years is nearing the end of its useful life (at least for me). Major draws for me are style, power, and MPGs, though not always in that order. Given that, VW’s new concept car, which will go into limited production for 2010, hits all three with an emphasis on the MPG part. 282 to be precise. They are doing a hell of a job dethroning Toyota as the most fuel-efficient car maker. Plus, I still think the Prius is butt-ugly and apparently drives like a golf cart.
If, like me, you can’t wait until 2010 to pay over 30 grand for a two seater, then check out the upcoming Jetta diesel with a rumored 60 mpg on the highway. Its lacking in the style category, but making up for it with mileage.
This past weekend we went down to San Diego and La Jolla, where I captured some more 60 Second videos.
The first one here is a survivor from a swarm of bees we hit doing 75 on the 5 freeway. I can’t believe it hung on until San Diego. The second is flags hung from the tower of the USS Midway aircraft carrier museum.

David Horvitz’s proposal for EGOESDAYGLO reminded me of an event during my last year of college: I was home alone, scrubbing our kitchen floor on my hands and knees. When I went to wash out the bucket in the utility sink in the corner studio that overlooked the entry to the apartment, I saw Colleen come up the stairs. She looked up, waved and said “hello” then went into her room. I assumed she was going to pack, as she would be moving back in with her parents soon. Later that evening when I was having dinner with my other roommates they asked if colleen had come by that day. I told them, “yeah, but she wasn’t here for very long and left without saying goodbye.” When we spoke to Colleen later that night, she said she was at her parents house all day. We joked that she must have astral projected herself when she was taking a nap, or that I was hallucinating from the cleaning product fumes. Either way – it was creepy.
David, good luck with your poetic efforts.
A friend of mine found this link for me, it’s a collection of photos from a RISD grad from 1976. 32 years ago, and the City has definitely changed a lot in that time. It’s pretty great. Now, of course, I will have to recreate some of these locations and do a Before and After. Like I don’t have enough to do…
I put some photos over at flickr of a recent project we did at PMA – its the offices for a marketing agency called Pitch in Culver City.
